For Dollywood, 2026 is a standout year, with major new rides, immersive night events, and family-friendly upgrades. Here's why it's worth planning around.
What to expect at Dollywood in 2026
Wondering if visiting Dollywood in 2026 is still worth it? The answer is simple: absolutely.
This is a standout year for America's number one theme park, with some of the most ambitious updates in its 41-year history.
Headlining the season is NightFlight Expedition, a $50 million, next-generation attraction.
There are also new additions like the after-hours Harvey's Boo Bash and the first-ever Run Dollywood race weekend. Add in meaningful upgrades across infrastructure, entertainment, and the overall ride lineup, and 2026 shapes up as one of the best times to plan a visit!
At Smoky Mountain Holiday, we offer a variety of cabins in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville. With over 20 years of experience in the Smoky Mountains and a capable team of true locals, we like to think of ourselves as your go-to mountain experts.

If you're planning a visit and wondering what's actually new at Dollywood, here's what's worth your time in 2026, and why this year stands out.
Completely New Experiences at Dollywood in 2026

NightFlight Expedition
This year's flagship experience is NightFlight Expedition. It is the world's first indoor family hybrid coaster and whitewater river raft ride, located in the family-forward Wildwood Grove section of the park.
The attraction is a 5.5-minute immersive journey that combines several ride systems into one cohesive story. You'll board a 10-passenger amphibious vehicle and begin with a media-driven nighttime flight simulation.
The experience then transitions into a whitewater rafting excursion using half a million gallons of surging water, traverses a mountain ridge as a roller coaster, and concludes with a boat ride finale in a glowing "secret lake." Phew!

That's not all. The ride is inspired by the Smoky Mountains' natural phenomenon of synchronous fireflies. It uses projection mapping, layered sound, and environmental effects to create a bioluminescent nightscape.
Dolly Parton herself has expressed great pride in the ride, though she noted she will not ride it because she is prone to motion sickness and prefers not to get her hair or shoes wet. Feels very on brand!
To be fair, while the ride features a 60-foot water tower and significant water elements, park leadership has reassured guests that they should not expect to get "too wet," making it suitable for year-round riding. In summer, it's a welcome break from the heat...

You can also look forward to exclusive NightFlight merchandise, including glow-in-the-dark shirts and hoodies.

Harvey's Boo Bash
Another major new attraction this year is Harvey's Boo Bash, a separately ticketed, after-hours Halloween event debuting this October.
The attraction is themed around and hosted by Harvey, the park's signature pumpkin character. Rather than leaning into scares, the tone is intentionally light and festive, designed as a family-friendly celebration with a whimsical edge.
At its core, the event centers around classic trick-or-treating, with candy stations spread throughout the park. At the same time, guests still have access to many of Dollywood's signature rides, which are much easier to get on during these lower-crowd evening hours.
A big part of the draw is the atmosphere. The event overlaps with the Great Pumpkin LumiNights displays, so once the sun goes down, the whole park lights up with a warm, glowing feel.
Merchandise and food offerings? Of course. There's a little "you had to be there" factor, with event-only bites and limited-edition merch you won't catch during the day.
Neon Nights at Splash Country
If you thought Splash Country was strictly a daytime situation, think again.
Neon Nights is the water park's first real step into after-dark programming, with live DJs, neon lighting, and late access to the slides. It's part water park, part low-key party, and a clear sign that Dollywood is deliberately stretching the experience into the evening rather than wrapping things up at sunset.
Dollywood's Splash Country opens for the 2026 season on Saturday, May 23, 2026. It sits right next door to the main park, so it's basically Dollywood in swimwear. Same vibe, just with more water and a slightly more relaxed pace.
Run Dollywood
Up for a run? Then mark Run Dollywood in your calendar. This is the park's first dedicated race weekend, scheduled for April 25–26, 2026.
This inaugural event is expected to host approximately 6,500 runners. Here's how the programme goes:
- Saturday features a 5K, 10K, and a one-mile Kids Fun Run (for ages 4–12)
- Sunday is dedicated to a half marathon that winds through both the theme park and Splash Country
Participants can earn commemorative pink butterfly medals, and those who complete the "butterfly" challenge by running all three races receive a special version of the medal.
Dolly herself joked that the race is "really good for your buns—especially your cinnamon buns!"
Artrageous
One of the newer additions to the lineup, Artrageous leans into novelty from the outset. Located at the Show Street Palace Theater, this 45-minute high-energy production is a highlight of the I Will Always Love You Music Festival.
The show features talented artists who dance and sing while creating massive paintings live on stage, including subjects like Dolly Parton, an eagle, and a recreation of Starry Night. The performance is highly interactive, often calling for audience volunteers to join the artists on stage for "solo auditions." Are you game?
Moto Motion Freestyle Showdown
Prefer something even louder and more high-octane? This all-new 45-minute stunt show delivers intense action at the Pines Theater. It's all about speed and movement, featuring world-class athletes performing high-energy maneuvers.
But heads up: this limited-run engagement is available early in the season, running only through mid-April.
Updated Experiences at Dollywood in 2026

Dollywood Express (Updated & Cleaner)
The legendary Dollywood Express — a historic, 5-mile, 20-minute steam train ride through the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains inside Dollywood — has undergone a major mechanical update, converting its engines from coal-fired to oil-fired.
The shift allows the train to operate more consistently during dry conditions or fire-risk periods, when coal engines might otherwise be restricted.
Why does that matter? For guests, it translates into a cleaner ride, without coal cinders flying into their eyes, and some early riders have even noted the train seems to run a touch faster since the switch, an added bonus, for sure!

What's Still Worth the Hype at Dollywood in 2026
World-Class Coasters
- Lightning Rod: Remains the park's speed king, launching riders up to 73 mph and still delivering one of the most intense experiences in the lineup.
- Thunderhead: This massive wooden coaster continues to be a standout, often described as a "work of art," and now running noticeably smoother following off-season maintenance.
- Tennessee Tornado: A classic looping coaster that's been given a fresh paint job for 2026, bringing its bright orange track back to life.
- Big Bear Mountain: The park's newest family coaster keeps things smooth but exciting, with a 39-inch height requirement that makes it accessible for younger riders stepping up to bigger thrills.
- Blazing Fury: This iconic indoor dark ride coaster has been recently retracked, resulting in a much smoother ride while keeping its classic "Fire in the hole!" storyline intact.

Let's Talk Food
Come Hungry.
The Grist Mill's famous cinnamon bread is still a non-negotiable stop. While it's also available at the Spotlight Bakery, most people will tell you it tastes better fresh from the mill.
For 2026, a new favorite is the Chicken Alfredo Bread Bowl, a buttery toasted bread bowl filled with creamy pasta.
Meanwhile, the park's oversized skillet meals—like sausage and cabbage or steak and potatoes—continue to be cooked in giant open-air skillets in Market Square and remain just as much a part of the experience as the rides.
Can you smell it already?
Craftsman's Valley
This is still the soul of the park. In Craftsman's Valley, you can watch master craftsmen at work, from glass blowing to blacksmithing.
It's not just about watching, either. You can get involved by making your own blown glass ornament at Mountain Blown Glass or trying your hand at forging a knife at the Valley Forge Blacksmith.
It's slower-paced, a bit more grounded, and a welcome change of rhythm.
The Dolly Parton Experience
One of the most distinctive areas in the park, the Dolly Parton Experience remains a highlight.
The Songteller museum offers a self-paced look at Dolly's life and career, while the Behind the Scenes exhibit dives into her iconic fashion.
A major draw is stepping inside her personal tour bus, used from 1994 to 2009, which gives a rare glimpse into her "home on wheels." In spring, the entire area gets an extra lift with a pink, glittering canopy of decorations celebrating her music.
This is Dolly, through and through!

If You're Still Thinking About It...
In 2026, Dollywood feels like a park at its peak. It balances its traditional Southern hospitality with its most ambitious technological expansions. The atmosphere is high-energy yet comfortable, aiming to be immersive and emotional rather than just fast or intense.
